How many meetings have you sat through where everyone was talking about the same problem, yet each person was actually picturing a different one? I’ve been in plenty, and for years I’ve been thinking about how to help a team see the same thing before they decide anything.
That’s what my new book is about. Tangible Future: How to Outsmart Complexity and Build What’s Next is out now: 268 pages built around one simple idea. When a problem gets complex, it’s time to stop talking and start building.
In it I share the PLAYMOBIL pro × Pro.Play® method, which draws on the neuroscience of embodied cognition. Put simply, we think with our hands too. With the kits, an abstract business problem becomes a 3D model your whole team can see, touch and improve.
Along the way I look at how to get past your “inner editor”, the voice that holds ideas back before you share them. I also cover how to avoid “invisible map” failures, which come from what nobody puts on the table. And I walk through the eight principles that, for me, make facilitation work.
It follows on from Play Like a Pro, and I’m really happy to finally share it with the community.
I’d love to hear what you think. What’s the first challenge you’d put on the table?
You’ll find the book at the official shop. It’s also on Amazon.
